Candid shot of the ABCO Systems LLC engineering team. Led by our Chief Engineering Officer Matthew Lopreato.Matt was my second hire. I was terrified to hire him. I knew we needed a true engineer on the team in order to grow. But it was his livelihood and his career on the line. I was fearful we wouldn’t have enough work and I’d be unable to pay his salary. That fear drove me. It still does. Truth is, he changed our game, and helped us get to the next level in so many ways. That was many years ago, and we now have this epic team. I still feel similar anxiety when hiring people. I suppose I always will. My biggest fear is I will let then down. Yet, I also know full well, it’s the team, any team, that makes a business successful. So we continue to grow by hiring the best. Not just in skill set, but in attitude. Do you use “clean criminal;” “clean criminal record;” clean criminal check;” or “clean criminal record check required” in your job postings? Wisconsin #business #owners and #humanresources managers, please remove that language from your job positings on Indeed or other jobs boards immediately.Use of this language will likely result in your #Company getting a Wisconsin’s Equal Rights Division claim, like 600+ other Wisconsin businesses to date, for #conviction #record #discrimination from someone who has a criminal record, searches for these specific words in job ads, never applies for any position, and does not have any apparent intent to come to Wisconsin (all my opinion) but still will file a claim even though the person never completed the application. Please do yourself a favor and remove this language immediately and, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! My hiring experience in law enforcement has been, when you hire mature men and women of good character, give them the resources and opportunity to do the right things, they will not let you down.Of course, this requires mature, experienced supervisors who are also of good character. Goes without saying, the hiring authority must be mature, experienced and of good character. If you allow any lapses in this chain of maturity and character, you’ll most likely not get the desired results at ground level. Just my observation.
