Was traveling through Lewiston on the main North-South highway. (That's pretty much the only way to go from the North Idaho to South Idaho on the West side of the State--and the State Highway police know this!) I was pulled over for failing to make a turn signal off the highway. That was not the real problem; it was the way I was pulled over. The State Patrol officer never turned on his lights, but left me trying to figure out if he was really following me or not. Then he called FOUR other police vehicles, plus a dog to sniff my car! His "crew" tried to measure my car windows for excessive tinting, but I soon realized he just wanted an excuse to look in my trunk. Neighboring gas stations employees thought I must have been a drug runner with all the excessive show of force. Turns out, there was a big State Police training event that week in town. I had out-of-State plates so this SP officer was clearing looking for reasons to stop people. I never felt so harassed in my life!

Idaho is backwards and Lewiston is no exception. They are about 20 yrs behind the nation. All you have to do is look at what the government here does. As soon as I can I will

I have visited friends who live in Lewiston. I looked at houses and found one on normal hill. The sad part was that after realizing my age, I could not pack up the spouse and move. We are too old. But I had dreams, money was not a problem nor income for retirement. I liked the people I met and also came in contact with the police dept. and exchange police stories. All the people were decent. Yes its true there is little night life but that was not our interest. Normal hill is near the college and I would have been a volunteer mentor to some of the many students I met at events. The criticisms come fast about Lewiston. What do you want in life? Peace, satisfaction, good neighbors, caring people, a decent city government, kindness towards each other? If so Lewiston is a good place, don't compare it with San Francisco Portland or Seattle. Its small town community, the whole area has about 100,000 people covering Moscow and Pullman and Clarkston. Judge for yourself .
