Barbara Joy Overton was born September 2, 1944 at Waterloo, Iowa to Milo and Florence (Starck) Paustian. Barbara received her education at North Tama High School at Traer, graduating in the Class of 1962. On April 20, 1963 she was united in marriage to Bruce A. Overton at the Zion Lutheran Church at Dysart. Barbara and Bruce made their home in Traer where Barbara assisted their new marriage by working at Brandts Food Fare and North Tama Schools while her husband attended college. In addition to raising her two sons, Barbara worked as a teller at the First Community Bank at Traer. She later took a leave of absence to assists her husband in starting their family funeral service. When their nephew, Shawn, joined the funeral home, Barbara returned to her career at the bank. After 1990 Barbara worked part time while she traveled with her husband as they went throughout Iowa and the nation representing funeral service. Barbara served as First Lady to the Iowa Funeral Directors in 1986-87 and to the National Funeral Directors Association in 1995-96. She will be remembered by many for her friendly and graceful manner. In recent years she has enjoyed traveling with her husband and her passions included her grandchildren, Alexander, Tyler, and Claire, her special niece Angie and her family, and her love of nature.
